Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. She founded Feminist Frequency which is a website which features video and posts on the representations of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critique. She is the founder and director of executive for Feminist Frequency an educational, non-profit website which explores representations of women in popular culture narratives. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also highlights issues related to specifically targeted harassment online against women and other minorities who have been marginalized. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in social thought and politics from York University. She is also a highly-respected public presenter. Sarkeesian gave speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Feminist Frequency was launched on the 9th of September 2009 by Sarkeesian, a University student who has been interested in issues related to gender and feminism for quite a lengthy time. A woman with ambitions to launch a web-series that would examine the gender-based representation in video games was targeted in an online campaign. The harassment didn't hinder her. It only strengthened her in her role as a feminist journalist. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminists have been recognized by numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian was a multi-award winning journalist. She also serves as the founder and director of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit organization that explores pop culture representations of females.
